The Edinburgh Christmas Markets make for a fantastic fun-filled day or night out! Let our handy blog tell you more about what’s on offer in the vibrant Scottish capital this Christmas, and how to get there by train.
When are the Edinburgh Christmas Markets?
The Edinburgh Christmas Markets are part of the Edinburgh Winter Festival. The Christmas markets themselves will run from November 25th to January 4th. Each day, the markets will be open from 10am to 10pm.
Of course, the markets will take a break on Christmas Day. There are also a few other days where you’ll find that the opening hours have been tweaked:
- 26 December: 12pm – 8pm
- 31 December: 10am – 6pm
- 1 January: 12pm – 8pm.
What will I find at the Edinburgh Christmas Markets?
You’ll find a wide variety of stalls filled with Artisanal festive products and delicious food and drink. Whether you’re after something to pop on the Christmas tree, a mug of mulled wine or a warming hot chocolate, there’s something for everyone.
The Edinburgh Christmas Markets are also playing host to the LNER Big Wheel. You can hop inside and enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Edinburgh skyline. There’s also a selection of thrilling rides for those who want a little more of an adrenaline rush!
Don’t forget the indoor ice skating rink on George Street, either. It’s well-covered, so you don’t need to worry if the weather turns a bit driech. Meanwhile, in St Andrew’s Square, your little ones can enjoy some of Santa’s Stories and take part in the Festival of Kindness.
Where will the Edinburgh Christmas Markets be?
This year, the Edinburgh Christmas Markets are a little more spread out. Here’s where you can expect to find everything:
- East Princes Street Gardens is home to the traditional market with over 70 stalls, the Big Wheel and Funfair rides
- West Princes Street Gardens is hosting the Family Funfair
- You can get your skates on in George Street! That’s where you’ll find the indoor ice rink
- Don’t forget Santa’s Stories and the Festival of Kindness in St Andrew’s Square
- Looking to explore? Don’t forget the Festive Trails situated around the Old Town.
What’s the Edinburgh Christmas Markets’ nearest train station?
That’s simple! It’s Edinburgh Waverley. Take a look at the map below for all of the different Christmas Market areas and where they are in relation to the station.
If you’re looking to visit the main attractions, then you’ll want to use the exits towards Princes Street or the Waverley Bridge. Going to the Old Town? Head towards Platforms 8 and 9 and use the exit there.
