From Sunday 2 June, timetables for many rail services in Great Britain will be changing. This is usually known as the May timetable change, but as a one-off, we have a June timetable change this year! Let’s go through the key changes that you need to know about.

What’s happening with the June timetable change?

We’ll break down the June timetable change by operator, so you can quickly scroll to the company most relevant to you. Some companies are making major changes, while others are just making minor tweaks.

Avanti West Coast

From June 2nd, Avanti West Coast will no longer run to/from Shrewsbury or Wellington. You’ll need to change at Birmingham International or Birmingham New Street instead.

Some other trains will have their times/calling patterns tweaked.

c2c

There’ll be two extra trains per hour on c2c, Mon-Fri Off-Peak, between Shoeburyness and London Fenchurch Street as of the June timetable change. This means that services will be closer to pre-covid levels. They’ll run via Basildon and stop at all stations except West Horndon and Pitsea.

There will also be some minor changes during the weekday rush hours:

  • 07:08 Leigh-on-Sea to London Fenchurch Street (new service)
  • 07:45 Shoeburyness to London Fenchurch Street (new service)
  • 06:45 Shoeburyness to London Fenchurch Street will now leave at 06:48 and will no longer stop at Pitsea, Basildon, West Ham or Limehouse
  • 08:03 Leigh-on-Sea to London Fenchurch Street will now leave at 08:04 and will no longer stop at West Horndon.

Some other Off-Peak services will see minor timetable changes.

Caledonian Sleeper

There will be no change to the timetable.

Chiltern Railways

During the middle of the week, there will be some additional capacity added to the timetable on Chiltern Railways. Here are the main changes:

  • There’ll be a new 07:21 Princes Risborough to London Marylebone (Tues-Thurs only)
  • There’ll be a new 17:37 London Marylebone to Princes Risborough (Tues-Thurs only).

As a result, on Tuesdays to Thursdays only, some trains will be amended:

  • 06:37 Oxford to London Marylebone will run directly from Haddenham & Thame Parkway to High Wycombe (set-down only) then London Marylebone
  • 17:37 London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street will depart at 17:33
  • 17:45 London Marylebone to Oxford stops at Beaconsfield but will no longer call at High Wycombe.

There are some other minor changes to services. We’d recommend checking journey planners or the Railsmartr website when booking your ticket.

CrossCountry

In order to better manage constrained capacity levels, some trains will skip smaller stations during the busiest periods. As a result, these stations will be skipped on selected services:

  • Wakefield Westgate (Mon-Sat)
  • Chesterfield (Mon-Sat)
  • Basingstoke (Saturdays only)
  • Winchester (Saturdays only).

We’d recommend checking journey planners or the Railsmartr website when booking your ticket.

In the coming months, it is expected that CrossCountry will receive additional ‘Super Voyager’ trains from Avanti West Coast, once their new fleet of trains enters service. This will create additional capacity for passengers on the busy North East-South West and Manchester-South Coast/Bristol routes.
