Are there Boxing Day Trains?

On the vast majority of the rail network, Boxing Day trains do not operate. This allows for essential engineering work to take place.

Do any Boxing Day trains operate?

The following trains are expected to run on Boxing Day 2023:

  • Chiltern Railways services from London Marylebone to Oxford Parkway
  • Greater Anglia (Stansted Express) services from Stansted Airport to Tottenham Hale (trains do not continue to Liverpool Street)
  • Heathrow Express services will link the Heathrow Terminals
  • London Overground services from Shepherd’s Bush to Clapham Junction
  • Merseyrail services will be running but will not serve all stations. Hunts Cross will not be served and trains towards Chester/Ellesmere Port will only run between Liverpool and Hooton
  • ScotRail will be running a largely full timetable throughout Glasgow and Strathclyde and a more limited one in the Central Belt
  • Southern services to Gatwick Airport/Brighton, East Croydon (via Crystal Palace) and Sutton (via West Croydon).

We’d recommend checking the National Rail festive travel page for more information.

I’ve booked a Boxing Day train already, what happens now?

If the train that you’ve booked will no longer be running, we will contact you and let you know. If you have any questions about Boxing Day trains, please contact us.
