West Coast Mainline Engineering Works – What’s Happening?

During Autumn 2023, there’ll be West Coast Mainline engineering work taking place. This will mean that some journeys will take longer than usual, and you might need to change trains or use a replacement bus service. Here’s what we know so far, so you can plan ahead:

When are there West Coast Mainline Engineering works?

On many weekends through to November 2023, West Coast Mainline engineering works will result in a reduced service in and out of London Euston. This will also affect selected weekdays. Here’s a full list of the dates and what’s happening:

Reduced service in/out of London Euston: 2-8 Sept 2023

On these dates, London Northwestern Railway services between London Euston and Birmingham New Street will be split in two.

They’ll run between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central, and then between Northampton and Birmingham New Street. There’ll be a replacement bus service running between Milton Keynes Central and Northampton, and vice-versa. Additionally, on Sunday 3 September, London Northwestern Railway trains between London Euston and Crewe will be affected by this change.

Avanti West Coast will run the following services every hour:

  • Manchester Picc to London Euston (via Crewe)
  • Manchester Picc to London Euston (via Stoke-on-Trent)
  • Glasgow Central to London Euston
  • Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston
  • Glasgow Central/Edinburgh to London Euston via Birmingham New Street (on Saturday and Sunday these services will run only between Preston and London).

Trains to/from North Wales will run only between Crewe and Holyhead.

You can also expect a reduced service in/out of London Euston on the following weekends:
